Bruce Levine reports that the Cubs and Carlos Marmol have reached an agreement on a 2010 contract.
The Chicago Cubs and agents for Carlos Marmol have agreed on a one-year contact worth $2.125 million for the 2010 season.
The amount agreed upon is the midway point between the arbitration figures the two sides had filed.
The only arbitration case remaining for the Cubs is shortstop Ryan Theriot. According to sources, Theriot and the Cubs will go through the process of arbitration. That trial will take place between Feb. 8-20 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Will there be any outrage about Theriot being selfish and putting his own needs in front of the team or will the fans and writers once again ignore it because he's a scrappy white guy?
Marmol got a little more than he's worth, but they're going to use him as the closer. If he walks fewer than 8 per 9 innings he just might be worth that amount of money when you consider he's only first year arbitration eligible.
